The meaning of the word Dinuz comes from the conjunction of two words: for one part the letter “D” of Diocesanas or of a D-system system (in Basque), and Linux.
Diocesanas have been developing the operational system Dinux since 2006 and the principle objective of the project was to create an operational system on a self-ripping CD in Basque.
Dinux has been evolving and currently is a system operating in three languages: Basque, Spanish, and English and is installed in the four Multimedia centre and in the 5 classrooms of the different locations, in total in more than 130 computers.
Dinux has gone from CD to DVD due to the great volume of software that it contains, in its majority of open coding.
It is based on the distribution Ubuntu of Linux and contains all the programmes necessary to work on a computer: word processors, spreadsheets, photoshop, compressors, correctors... in total more than 900 programmes.
Dinux is shared with the rest of the society through the web page
